Europe, the Far East, the Middle East, India, Israel, South America, Africa, Asia and Australia are as familiar to us as New York, Miami and Los Angeles. If your international shipment is large enough for its own shipping container and access to your origin address allows, then we will bring either a 20 or 40 foot container to your residence, and load your household goods directly into the container. This is very important because it eliminates the double handling of your goods and the additional cost of moving items to our facility then loading the container.

Expert Crating and Fragile Packing

Packing is the key to a safe and successful move. You have invested a lot of care and money in your belongings. When you move them you want to be certain they will arrive safely. The best way to do that is to make sure they are packed properly using the best materials available.

Prestige Moving & Storage works closely with the area self storage facilities and its managers to secure the best monthly rate for our valued customers.

At the time of moving items into storage, our staff will make an itemized household goods inventory for each customer. The inventory stickers are color coded and in numeric order.

Protecting items while in storage:

Prestige Moving & Storage takes the extra steps and plastic wraps all upholstery furniture at no additional cost. The plastic wrap will remain on the upholstery furniture throughout the entire storage process. All remaining furniture will be protected with 3 ply acid free 42″x72″ paper pads at the time of loading the storage unit. If you are planning to do some or all of your own packing, then be sure to check out our discounted packing material bundles that we deliver to customers who we are moving.

ADDITIONAL STORAGE OPTIONS:

Short term storage is available for customers who only need a day, few days or a week. Perhaps your closings are a day apart or your new residence is not ready for a week, Prestige Moving & Storage can coordinate and tailor your storage needs for all circumstances. Please speak to your representative about your specific storage needs so they can best determine the most cost effective solution. In some cases we can hold items on the truck for a day or so without having to offload and reload, in other cases where you need several days or a week it may be cost effective to offload and reload versus the cost of holding on the truck for a long period of time.

Full replacement coverage is available for all relocation services that we provide and is highly recommended for long distance moves, international moves and for storage moves. Your Prestige Moving & Storage representative will provide you with valuation coverage protection plans that also include full replacement coverage that you can select from. You may also want to contact your homeowners insurance policy to see how your items are insured while in transit and while in storage.

When to Move School Age Kids

When your kids are school age, you might be tempted to plan your move for the school holidays. In reality, this can actually make things harder for your kids. School is most likely the first place your kids can be assured of making friends. Thus, moving during the school holidays places your child in unfamiliar and new surroundings at a time when their chances of making friends are low.

• As school resumes, your child may feel even more left out. As the first day return to school is filled with the excitement and hustle and bustle that occurs after a holiday vacation, your child may feel like a stranger.
• When you schedule your move during the school year, it allows your kids to go from one social setting to another.
• The teacher and the other kids will be more willing to show your child some extra special attention when they are the only new person.

Does age make a difference?

• Generally speaking, the younger the child, the better they will cope with the transition of moving to a new home.
• Very young children and infants may be confused. It is a good idea to try to explain to them what’s happening and make it like an adventure.
• The biggest worry that school age children endure is whether they will make new friends and fit in easily at their new school.
• Because teenagers’ friends provide them with a sense of identity, it is more difficult for teens to feel comfortable with the idea of moving to a new home.
• As you start making plans for your move, remember to focus on what your kids can look forward to.
• After all, if you see your move as an exciting adventure, your kids will also be very enthusiastic.
• Right from the start, you might want to take them with you on house-hunting adventures. In cases where it might not be practical to have them tagging along, don’t forget to bring back pictures of hot prospects you’re considering.
• After you’ve found the new home, be sure to take pictures of local places of interest.

Communication is the Key

Don’t forget to keep the channels of communication open. Before and during your move, encourage your kids to tell you about their uncertainties. Most likely, you’re probably feeling a little nervous about moving too (no matter how promising your new situation is likely to be). After your move, spend time together with your family. Listen to each other’s stories so that you can be sure how everyone is coping with the change.
